China BOCOM Insurance Co., Ltd., with approval from the People's Bank of China, China Insurance Regulatory Commission and the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was established in Hong Kong in November 2000 and was authorized to provide various kinds of general insurance products and services to the customers. China BOCOM Insurance Co., Ltd. is wholly owned by Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. For future company expansion, the paid-up capital is HK$400,000,000. Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. is one of the five leading commercial banks in Mainland China. In August 2004, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd. had become its strategic investor and subscribed 19.9% of its issued share capital. BOCOM was publicly listed in Hong Kong Stock Exchange on June 23, 2005 and became the first China-based Commercial Bank to sell shares overseas. At the end of 2007, BOCOM had a network of 100 branches & 2,610 outlets in 156 cities in Mainland China. At the end of 2008, the total assets of BOCOM were exceeding RMB 2,682.9 billion. Compared with same period of 2007, the net profit was increased by 40.05%.  Apart from its Hong Kong Branch, BOCOM had established overseas branches in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Frankfurt, Macau and representative offices in London.  The total employees were around 68,083.  BOCOM's ROAA and ROAE recorded 1.19% and 20.10%, and its NPL ratio was kept at 1.92%.
